How did 2025 go and what successes did you celebrate at year-end?
2025 was truly a special year for us, a year of transition and transformation. If I may borrow a philosophical reference, “The World as Will and Representation”: we changed our company name at the end of December 2024 from Hunkeler. it to HS Italia and, although we said goodbye to an important part of our traditional portfolio, the company was still able to grow in its core market thanks to very strong partners and a highly cohesive team strongly focused on customer satisfaction.
Which technologies are most appreciated by the market?
Without a doubt, Kern mailing and inserting systems. The entry of Muller Apparatebau GmbH into the Kern Group allowed us to expand our offering with customized end-to-end solutions. Then, ex aequo, Hunkeler Systeme solutions for green management of production waste in the packaging and graphic industries: we have delivered several highly interesting projects. And we must not forget the laser printing solutions from our partner El.En., which allow us to offer extremely innovative personalization solutions to the market.
Which projects have you launched in 2026 and what news can you share?
We are currently working on a very important project: we are aiming to enhance over 30 years of market presence by operating as a system integrator of world-leading manufacturers. However, it is still too early to talk about it in detail. But we will soon be able to dedicate a full feature to it, with your help.
Regulations and rising costs: how does your company respond to these two challenges?
Regarding rising costs, we are trying to contain price increases on components, absorbing additional costs wherever possible, but it is not easy. We are not manufacturers, and there is an open dialogue with our Swiss partners regarding system costs; they are also trying to support us where possible. Unfortunately, external dynamics beyond our control are having a negative impact, and even in our Service division, travel costs have become almost prohibitive. We hope the situation will stabilize soon at more sustainable levels.
What role do trade fairs play in supporting the development of new services and products?
As mentioned, we are not manufacturers, but trade fairs today are an important moment of exchange and engagement with our customers: they allow us to demonstrate the technological leadership of our partners’ solutions.
THE PRODUCTS
Hunkeler Systeme
The economic efficiency of a production system in the converting industry – carton, cardboard, hot foil, corrugate and aluminum – starts with the efficient collection of production waste directly at the machines. Hunkeler Systeme solutions for the packaging industry are an integral part of the production cycle and optimize the actual performance of packaging systems by avoiding interruptions and production stops.
The first key step is the innovative Green Line Concept energy-saving system, which enables significant reductions in energy costs while protecting the environment. Energy consumption of the systems is considerably reduced, and residual heat provides sufficient energy to air-condition the premises. In new extraction systems supported by the Green Line Concept, annual operating costs are significantly reduced and the investment can be amortized in a short period of time.
Die-cutting lines: waste management, shredding and compaction
Shredding production waste where it is generated – directly at the production machine – is a key factor for efficient and trouble-free waste disposal in flatbed die-cutting applications. Various shredder models are suitable for all production types in terms of size and thickness.
Hot-foil stamping Waste from hot stamping machines is bulky, requires extensive manual handling, and can contaminate production areas due to its properties. Hunkeler Systeme’s automated disposal solutions for hot stamping waste increase efficiency and cleanliness in production.
KERN PackOnTime®
The innovative system for producing customized shipping boxes on demand.
Smart Pack: the cardboard box is produced in the required size for each item, or multiple items together. The cardboard sheet is formed into a robust box that provides optimal protection even for the most delicate and valuable products, avoiding any damage.
Plant software management ensures maximum safety in shipment processing.
Optimized logistics: the core concept of PackOnTime® optimizes packaging and shipping processes and increases productivity, while ensuring respect for the environment and resources.
Product positioning for packing: items are placed on a conveyor belt. Dimensions are detected to determine the required box size without material or shipping space waste.
