THE INTERVIEW

Ettore Colico

Converting Director

How did 2025 go, and what achievements did you celebrate at year-end?

2025 was a “defensive” year, considering the geopolitical situation, which negatively affected customers’ willingness to invest. However, due to the innovative nature of Sei Laser’s products, interest in fully automated systems grew considerably. We are satisfied with these results and look to the future with optimism: 2026 is shaping up very positively.

Which of your technologies are most appreciated by the market?

As mentioned, full automation and the integration of different technologies—to reduce steps in the workflow—are proving highly successful: the savings for companies are tangible and evident.

Which projects did you launch in 2026, and what new developments can you share?

Finishing and embellishment have been integrated into our flagship systems; these technologies enhance the perceived value of products and increase interest in the fully digital workflow. Klimtjet (our in-line finishing system) complements Kyojet (high-resolution UV digital printing) and Labelmaster, creating—in a single system—the market’s leading complete and automated production line.

Regulations and rising costs: how is your company responding to these challenges?

These factors are driving price increases; Sei Laser is committed to R&D to find alternative solutions for reducing production costs. The challenge lies in simplifying processes without compromising on our renowned, absolute quality.

Training and new professionals: how do you support your customers, and what is your approach to internal recruitment?

The range of after-sales services we offer customers is growing significantly, meeting the demands of an increasingly discerning market. Customers don’t just buy hardware and software; they purchase an integrated solution: training, production support, and scheduled, ongoing assistance. The new challenges in this sector may represent the future for many young people: the demand for “physical” services—not just virtual or remote ones—is creating new jobs. I’d call them “tutors”—professionals who can guide customers on their growth journey.

What role do trade fairs play in driving the development of new services and products?

I do not believe trade fairs themselves have this type of focus: exhibitors are the real drivers of trends, while organizers follow and adapt by responding to exhibitors’ requests. Some organizers take greater risks by opening up to new applications, while others adopt a more conservative approach and focus on their core business in order to preserve their identity. I believe the right balance always lies somewhere in between.
