THE INTERVIEW

Daniele Cerizzi
CEO
What are the main challenges you faced in 2024 and the most important goals you achieved?
Having a global leadership position, the negativity of 2024 was overcome by the balance of orders in the various markets. In fact, we had a very good year both at corporate level and in Italy where, between extrusion and printing, we reached a new all-time high. A downturn was only noticeable in the paper sack sector, which, however, has already made a positive start in these early months of 2025.
What product lines are you working on that you intend to promote as a priority over the next year?
We are constantly investing in R&D, regardless of the product line. In the near future we will be presenting major innovations in printing and digitisation, also with the help of AI, while in extrusion we are working on revolutionary solutions concerning monomaterials and automatisms at the service of operators.
What services or activities have you planned for 2025 to engage and gain customer loyalty?
The most important event of the year for us will be the K trade fair, directly connected by free shuttles to our now customary Open House at the Lengerich site. In Italy, on the other hand, we are working on strengthening the service department by bringing in new local technicians.
ESG criteria are increasingly at the centre of companies’ development strategies, what are the actions you have taken in this regard?
It is a complex topic, difficult to address in a few words. For us, for our employees, sustainability is the number one priority and translates into a proactive commitment well demonstrated in the measures described in the ‘Sustainability’ section of our website.
On which of the critical issues have you built valuable solutions for the industry?
A typical theme concerns “the cultural difference” between countries, which has stimulated W&H to work on being more and more flexible, capable of dialogue and adaptable to different mentalities. This has also resulted in a strengthening of the after-sales service, in order to guarantee our customers consistently high service levels and thus help to create strong partnerships.
What role do exhibitions play in giving momentum to the development of new services and products?
We believe in this and invest a lot: to create opportunities for meeting, comparing and presenting new products.
THE PRODUCTS

Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) is a leading German manufacturer of flexible packaging machinery, with a product portfolio covering three main areas: extrusion, printing and converting.
Extrusion
W&H offers lines for the production of blown and cast film, used to produce single and multilayer materials for food, industrial and agricultural packaging. The lines also include stretching units, winders and automation and service systems.
Printing
For the printing sector W&H produces central drum flexo presses (CI Flexo Presses), gravure presses and has already unveiled its next digital press. These solutions are designed to guarantee high print quality on various materials, including paper and plastic films – both in long runs with speeds up to 800m/min and short runs with very agile machines.
Converting
For converting, W&H supplies machinery for the production of industrial bags, paper and plastic pouches and Form-Fill-Seal (FFS) packaging systems.
These include the TOPAS series, recognised for its efficiency in the packaging of bulk materials, with a capacity of up to 2,400 bags per hour.

Innovation and sustainability
W&H constantly invests in research and development to promote sustainable solutions. Through collaborations with partners such as ExxonMobil, the company has developed packaging containing up to 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, while maintaining high mechanical and optical performance. In addition, the RUBY IoT system allows real-time monitoring of production lines, improving efficiency and reducing waste, introducing and continuing to develop digital solutions.
With its innovation and quality oriented philosophy, Windmöller & Hölscher continues to represent a benchmark in the flexible packaging industry, offering advanced and sustainable solutions for the needs of the global market.
