What are the products you are working on as a priority in the coming year?
From inks and coatings that improve the efficiency and quality of plastic recycling, to printing solutions that enable substrate changes or support material reduction for less complex packaging structures, we continue to focus on developing sustainable solutions that enhance the performance and recyclability of packaging in the sense of a circular economy.
What activities do you have planned for 2025 to engage and retain your customers?
Looking ahead, initiatives such as PPWR will set new standards for the industry. Navigating this increasingly complex regulatory landscape will be crucial to developing future-proof packaging solutions.
To this end, we are actively engaged in various committees and associations to not only support our customers with compliant solutions, but also to anticipate future changes and ensure timely compliance. Being in close exchange with customers is key for us to support making packaging fit for the future. With 15 regional Centers of Excellence and more than 50 Blending Centers around the world, we have a broad global production and service network that enables us to not only ensure a consistent quality of our solutions and services worldwide, but also to meet specific local market demands.
What actions have you put in place in the regard of ESG criteria?
From eco-friendly production and sustainable products to inclusive workplaces and local community support – we follow a holistic sustainability approach. With HorizonNOW, we have launched a sustainable business program to manage our ambitious sustainability targets and keep track of our progress and achievements. We were also awarded the EcoVadis Silver Medal rating particularly for our environmental performance driven by strong sustainability management systems, emissions reductions targets, and our circular packaging solutions developed and sold in the market.
We Enable Future-Proof Packaging
From basic to high-end packaging: custom inks and coatings for almost any application.
Today’s biggest challenge is to design innovative and sustainable packaging while also achieving optimal process efficiency and capacity utilization to remain competitive and flexible. This is where choosing the right printing inks and coatings comes into play. They not only add color to packaging but also provide functional properties that contribute to improved usability, durability, and recyclability. This makes them essential elements in enabling the required packaging performance.
With our new PU-based ink series, we for example offer a sustainable alternative to NC-based solutions enabling the creation of NC-free flexible packaging that is not only fully recyclable but also offers comparable high packaging performance in lamination and surface applications. We also offer different solutions suitable for dual curing, simplifying the switch to LED-UV as a more sustainable alternative to UV curing.
Besides, we are continuously working on the development of functional coatings to further support the shift from multi- to mono-material structures and broaden the use of renewable materials like paper. With our UniNATURE Water- Oil Barrier Coating, we for example launched the first barrier solution with 100% natural content for the certified use on paper plates. Today, we can already look back on several successful development projects that have resulted in advanced and even award-winning packaging solutions with improved performance and recyclability.
With 200 years of expertise, we just know what it takes to develop and print successful and responsible packaging. From flexible plastic to paper & board packaging, from standard to low migration demands, from renewable resources to biodegradability, we offer inks and coatings for a wide range of applications and almost all production and printing processes. All solutions are customized to enable optimal packaging performance – in conversion, at the PoS, during consumer use and recycling.
