THE INTERVIEW

Andrea Cornelli

Andrea Cornelli

Vicepresident, Chief Strategist & Innovation Officer

In a market context such as the current one, what were the main challenges you faced in 2024 and what were the most important objectives achieved?

In 2024, Grifal faced several challenges, including the continuous adaptation to national and supra-national environmental regulations, depending on our customers’ target markets, as well as managing global market fluctuations. However, we achieved important goals such as expanding our international sales network, especially in Europe, and introducing new environmentally friendly products such as tissuePack for the industrial and luxury packaging market.

What product lines are you working on that you intend to promote as a priority over the next year?

In the coming year we will be promoting Grifal Technologies’ range of machines, such as the cutters for packaging materials, and the tissuePack product line. tissuePack is a multi-layer corrugated material, made from 100% natural fibres, with properties and aesthetics never seen before, a first for packaging.

What services or activities have you planned for 2025 to engage and gain customer loyalty?

For 2025, Grifal is planning several activities to engage and build customer loyalty, including an evolution of the Packaging Experience Training® at the Grifal Group Innovation Hub, at the Kilometro Rosso in Bergamo. This is a training course that will be structured into different formats and will offer vertical sessions on topics such as innovative design and graphics, testing and virtual packaging simulations.

ESG (environmental, social and governance sustainability) criteria are increasingly at the centre of  Companies’ development strategies, what are the actions you have taken in this regard?

Grifal has always been very sensitive to these issues, designing and implementing over the years several initiatives with ESG criteria at their core. The implementation of increasingly sustainable production technologies, the use of materials with less and less impact on the environment, and the promotion of transparent and responsible governance practices are just some of the many ESG-themed initiatives.

Criticality=opportunity: what are the critical issues that you have found on which you have built valuable solutions for the sector?

One of the main challenges encountered was the need to combine sustainability, resistance to multiple uses and aesthetic appeal in a single packaging solution. Then there was the economic issue of remaining competitive. Grifal responded to these needs by promoting the adoption of cArtù®, which came to represent 39% of all Group revenues as at 31.12.24 and, more recently, by introducing tissuePack. These materials offer superior protection, are easily recyclable and are characterised by a premium and original appearance that is becoming increasingly popular. Finally, our partners are evaluating the use of Grifal Technologies machines to optimise production and logistics and explore new go-to-market opportunities.

What role do exhibitions play in giving momentum to the development of new services and products?

Trade fairs play a crucial role in the development of new services and products. They are an extraordinary opportunity for the development of new market relationships, a very valuable full-immersion for us. We look forward to seeing you at Ipack- Ima, 27-30 May at Fiera Milano
