Anniversaries, compasses and tech

Bobst turns 125 and sets targets for efficiency, optimization and service, bringing lots of new converting technology to Drupa.

«2016 is an important year for Bobst because we are celebrating our 125th anniversary – announces Jean-Pascal Bobst, CEO of the Swiss corporation – and because it is the year of Drupa, which gives us an opportunity to show off the dynamism and dedication that have built our reputation in the sector. In fact, our group continues to expand its offer of technologies and services in order to enhance an ever expanding support to our customers, with diverse applications.
This is why we are able to present innovations at the fair that are designed to satisfy the needs of brand owners and their suppliers in efficiency, time-to-market and process optimization. The new additions involve our entire portfolio of product lines».

Die-cutters that “go further”

At the Bobst stand, first of all, a world debut: the brand new Mastercut 106 PER, presented as the most high productivity die-cutter ever created, “thanks to a series of innovations that will redefine the standards of the sector”. This was followed by a reveal for the converting sector, the Masterfoil 106 PR for hot foil, integrated with the Foil Unwinder+, a solution that guarantees +30% productivity and a 50% reduction of the use of metallized foil.
The event will also feature the launch of the Mastercut folding-gluing system and the new Masterfoil, both designed to guarantee greater automation, quicker adjustment, lowered operational costs and easier functioning, in addition to “zero defect” packaging production.

7 color digital flexo
A totally new version of the M6 UV flexographic printer, configured for production of folding boxes, is being presented at the fair as a valid alternative to offset solutions thanks to changeovers in under a minute with Digital FlexoTM, extremely high production speeds and in line high speed cutting. The boxes produced can be subsequently converted using Bobst die-cutters and folding-gluing systems. The seven color M6 features new orders of advantages in terms of costs, thanks to the acquisition of board in reels, and a simplified production process.
This latest achievement was made possible thanks to the UV Digital FlexoTM system, which requires no water or solvents and enables extremely quick changeovers.
More generally, by taking advantage of the level of automation offered by this technology and the characteristics of the new low migration UV inks, Bobst is able to present machinery to visitors at the German fair that feature set-up times comparable to digital and with extremely high productivity, demonstrating the performance of printing technology with extended chromatic gamut (ECG), which uses four or seven set colors and is suitable for the latest machines, specially optimized.

A vast offer
Central drum flexo, in line flexo printing, rotogravure and digital, but also new machines for lamination, spreading and metallization, any of which equipped with digital automation for easy, repeatable and reliable operation…
In the Bobst portfolio of solutions one finds all this and more, like the new software for high performance tools production, or the latest Pick&Play solution, which enhances operator safety and reduces machine stops, making it possible to immediately replace emergency parts and those subject to wear.
Don’t lose sight of the compass
By reserving a visit at the Bobst stand online (, visitors will receive on the smartphone their own “Bobst Innovation Compass”, which makes it possible to quickly and easily find and navigate and find the Bobst solutions that interest them. Bobst is also working with other major concerns at Drupa: Kodak, which will show packaging samples in its own VIP room; Kurz, which will host at its stand one of the new hot foil machines by the Swiss concern; and also Marbach, Hindere + Mühlich, Baumer hhs, Metsä, Henkel, Gebr. Knauer and partners of the REVO Digital Flexo project.
